Grand Gala Dinner: (Saturday, The Carolina Hotel Grand Ballroom, 8-11:30 p.m.) Celebrate in Presidential style with Former White House Chef Walter Scheib as he shares stories of his years in the White House. He’ll prepare a four-course gourmet dinner, expertly paired with premier wines, allowing you to sample and savor the best in haute cuisine. End the night on the dance floor with live music.
Featured Guest Chef: The American Chef – Former White House Executive Chef Walter Scheib: Walter Scheib has quite a story to tell. In fact, he has two stories to tell. The first involves the rise of an American chef to the most storied position in the land. The second offers an intimate, human view of two First Families, the corridors of political power, international personalities, and the most famous building in the United States, from a unique vantage point: The kitchen.
In April 1994, Walter Scheib became the chef to America’s chief executive and the First Family. Personally hired by First Lady Hillary Clinton, Scheib prepared everything from simple family meals to elaborate and formal State Dinners. His culinary creations dazzled and delighted White House guests including Nelson Mandela, Jacques Chirac, Boris Yeltsin, and Lady Diana Spencer among others.
Sunday’s “Iron Chef at Pinehurst:” (Sunday, The Carolina Hotel Grand Ballroom, 2-3:15 p.m.) Watch as two great chefs, Chef Jay Hunter and Chef Steven Queen, compete in our own version of “kitchen stadium” as they test their speed, artistry, and creativity in this culinary Battle of the Festival. The chefs have 1 hour to complete 3 courses themed around the surprise key-ingredient, facing critiques by our panel of judges. The returning host of the competition, Luis Torres, will keep audience members in the loop on ingredient origins, comments from the judges, and updates on the chefs’ progress.
