Pinehurst’s Best…
That You Didn’t See

While we continue to gear up for June, we can’t help but look back on a few forgotten gems of 2013. Before the New Year arrived, we took a look back on our most popular news posts and videos, and even at our Top 5 Instagram photos – a post that quickly needed to be updated moments after the ball dropped.

But now we’d like to give one more shot to what we believe are some of our best news items, posts and videos of 2013, but for some reason didn’t get the traction we expected or hoped.

So here they live on one more time. We hope you enjoy them….THIS TIME.*

*OK, we’re having a little fun here. Please know we appreciate our readers more than any of you will ever know. We’re proud of our content (most of it, anyway – KIDDING), and we’re thankful it has a home and such a dedicated following. So thanks to all of you for every single click. We take none of them for granted. Now, with that said…)

BEST VIDEOS YOU DIDN’T WATCH

At the LPGA Tour’s Kingsmill Championship, we interviewed Natalie Gulbis, Paula Creamer, Karrie Webb and Juli Inkster.

And Stacy Lewis.

You missed one of them.

And we get it. This video appears as though it were shot in an underground bunker designed to ride out the nuclear holocaust. (What can we say? It was raining outside.)

But Lewis is America’s best player, and one of the two best players in the world. And she’s talking about the U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst. And about being a golf nerd. And about the North & South Am.

OK, so it doesn’t look great. Let the audio run. Stacy Lewis is pure class, and was happy to speak with us.

How many No. 1 players in the world – in any sport – do that?

Only the best player in women’s golf over the last 50 years – if not ever. And this was done at the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion, where we also interviewed this guy and this guy.

Not a bad week, thank you very much.

But watch Annika. Please. C’mon, it’s ANNIKA.

Every summer the world descends on Pinehurst. This is but a sample of what it sounds like.

THE BEST STORIES YOU DIDN’T READ

MICHAEL CAMPBELL RELIVES THE 2005 U.S. OPEN AT PINEHURST

OK, we can kind of get this one, too. You’re still miffed somebody named Michael Campbell won the 2005 U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Fine.

But what do you really know about Campbell and his standing in golf at the time of his career highlight? Did he really come out of nowhere? How does he remember it? And Tiger? What is Campbell like now, even after his game fell apart?

He told us, and we promise one thing about this story and video:

If you watch this, you will root for Campbell to make some sort of comeback, even if it’s just for one week somewhere, anywhere.

“THE JACK NICKLAUS OF DISC GOLF”

Kidding. You guys clicked the HECK out of this one.

THE PGA TOUR – THROUGH THE EYES OF A 12-YEAR-YEAR SON

If you’ve met Pinehurst Golf Academy instructor Kelly Mitchum, then you know he’s pretty much the world’s nicest guy.

He’s also an incredible, world-class player, good enough for a handful of PGA Tour events a year.

But what’s it like for his son to see his dad play on Tour?

Well, it’s awesome. And we were there to see it.

THE MASTERS BEFORE THE MASTERS

There was a “major” golf tournament before The Masters.

And it was at Pinehurst.

Seriously.

And check back just case we’re able to show – at least for a moment – the video we weren’t allowed to post this year.
