“New New World vs. Old New World” 4:30pm-5:45pm Modern Takes on Wine in the New World such as Waterbrook Reserve Malbec, Willow Crest Pinot Gris, Waterbrook Mélange White, and Waterbrook Sangiovese Rose. Discuss new modern winemaking techniques and how these contrast with the Old world styles. Old World Wines to be presented are Canoe Ridge Reserve Chard, Primarius Pinot Noir and a couple of others. Meet the Expert: Shane Owens, Divisional Vice President of Sales, Precept Wine Company 5:45pm-6:45pm Shane Owens is a 20- year veteran of the wine industry having worked with Constellation Wine Company and Ste Michelle Wine Estates where he developed a passion for Pacific Northwest Wines such as Chateau Ste Michelle, Columbia Crest, Col Solare. 14 Hands and Spring Valley. Shane is currently with Precept Wine Company, the largest privately-owned Pacific Northwest Wine Company with vineyards in Washington State, Oregon and Idaho. Notable Wineries represented include Waterbrook, Canoe Ridge, Willow Crest and Browne from Washington State and Primarius from Oregon.

The Liberated Enjoyment of Food & Wine 1:45pm-3:00pm This is THE quintessential workshop on matching wine with food. It explores pertinent history while building out the premises of why wines and foods do and don’t go together. A comprehensive study of the ‘five keys to wine’ and ‘three keys to food’ that delineates the basis of all food and wine pairing. Meet the Expert: Luis Torres, Wine Expert and Educator, Academy of Wine 3:00pm-3:30pm South American-born, Chicago-raised Luis Torres studied Food Science and Technology before spending 15 years in the restaurant industry. His experience includes an apprenticeship at Charlie Trotter’s with Master Sommelier Larry Stone, studies with the Court of Master Sommeliers, The Wine and Spirits Education Trust and management and wine buying responsibilities for all of Hilton’s Chicago star properties.. He currently supports extensive business development in Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Meet the Expert: Max Vater, Alexander Valley Vineyards 4:45pm-5:15pm Max Vater was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and currently resides in Jacksonville FL. For the past ten years, he has been with Alexander Valley Vineyards, a California winery, as the Regional Sales Manager in Southeastern U.S.A.
The Other Wines the Tuscans Drink 5:00pm-6:15pm This seminar will explore the rise of Bolgheri from an area mostly known for Rose into a destination for top flight reds and Cabernet Sauvignon. We’ll touch on Marchese Antinori’s historical role in developing Bolgheri into the area it is today. You will learn about soil differences within the area and have the chance to taste Vermentino, Rose, Il Bruciato and Guado al Tasso. This session also touches on the developing area of Cortona and the potential of Syrah in the area. Meet the Expert: Thom Horsey, National Wine Educator, Ste Michelle Wine Estates 6:15pm-6:45pm Thom Horsey, National Wine Educator for Ste Michelle Wine Estates, is a 35 year veteran of the wine industry, and is a member of the Society of Wine Educators and is Certified Specialist in Wine. Thom has conducted and developed well over 1200 training’s, seminars, dinners and tastings on almost every aspect of wine.

Key West Gala Dinner 8:00pm-11:30pm In keeping with our Caribbean-inspired menu, the Gala dinner features a “Key West” theme. Celebrity Chef Norman Van Aken will prepare the dinner and speak about his books, No Experience Necessary: A Memoir” and My Key West Kitchen: Recipes & Stories. Iron Chef Competition 2:00pm-3:15pm Watch as expert chefs Steven Queen and Glen Benskin compete in our own version of “kitchen stadium” as they test their speed, artistry, and creativity in this culinary battle of the festival. The chefs have 1 hour to complete 3 courses themed around the surprise key-ingredient and critiques by our panel of judges. Meet the Expert: Alberto Eckholt, Winemaker, Vina Montes USA 5:15pm-5:45pm Born in Santiago, Chile in 1985, Alberto was always attracted to farming and agricultural life. Eckholt earned an Engineering degree in Agronomy with a major in Enology from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. After finishing his studies, he was hired as assistant winemaker at the Montes winery in Apalta, Chile under the tutelage of Master Winemaker and President of Montes Winery Aurelio Montes. After working abroad for a time, he returned to Montes and overseeing production of the Montes portfolio out of the winery in Apalta, Chile. The wines he produced that year are coming on the market now to critical acclaim.
