KEVIN ROBINSON NAMED SUPERINTENDENT

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (June 7, 2010)

Pinehurst Resort today announced that Kevin Robinson has been named Superintendent of Pinehurst No. 2, host site for the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championships.

Robinson has spent the last 18 years maintaining Pinehurst’s courses, including the last 11 as a Superintendent on four different Pinehurst courses. He has led renovation projects on three different Pinehurst courses and will be charged with guiding Pinehurst No. 2 through a restoration conducted by the renowned firm of Coore and Crenshaw, Inc.

“Kevin has done an outstanding job preparing and maintaining a number of Pinehurst courses, and his proven track record and experience will be invaluable on No. 2,” said Pinehurst President Don Padgett II. “We continually strive to deliver guests an unrivaled experience on No. 2, and Kevin is ready for that challenge.”

In his 18 years at Pinehurst, Robinson has served as the Superintendent of four courses. He ran No. 3 and No. 5 in 1998 and 1999 and spent the last 11 years as the Superintendent on No. 6 and No. 7.

“It’s a dream come true to work on No. 2,” Robinson said. “It’s one of those courses you always hope to have an opportunity to work on. It’s a big challenge, but I can’t wait to get started.”

During this time, he has gained extensive experience guiding courses through renovation projects. In 2004, Robinson worked with Tom Fazio’s architect group on a renovation of No. 6 that included rebuilding all greens to USGA specifications. In 2002, he worked directly with Rees Jones’ architect group on a renovation of No. 7. In 1998, Robinson led a project on No. 5 that included the rebuilding of all greens and tees.

Robinson first worked at Pinehurst as a grounds volunteer during the 1991 Tour Championship. He started full-time at Pinehurst in 1992. He worked as a foreman on No. 7, followed by stints as an Assistant Superintendent on No. 1, No. 4 and No. 7. He became the Superintendent of No. 3 and No. 5 in 1998 and has been the Superintendent of No. 6 and No. 7 since 1999.

A native of Morganton, N.C., Robinson graduated from North Carolina State in 1992 with a Turf Management degree.
