PINEHURST IN PINK: BREAST CANCER AWARENESS ACTIVITIES OFFER FREE SPA TREATMENTS, EVENTS

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (September 18, 2009) – Who do you know that has breast cancer?

Today, everyone has a quick answer.  It’s the reason why Pinehurst Resort and its Spa at Pinehurst have dedicated October 1 as Breast Cancer Awareness Day – to cheer on those in their fight, to reward the friends that support them, and to get the public informed and involved.

Breast Cancer Survivors will receive one free treatment at the Spa at Pinehurst on October 1; one “breast friend” who comes with them will receive 50% off one treatment.  Advanced reservations are required and can be made by calling 910.235.8320, and each booking includes a special Spa goodie bag.

“All of us have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another, whether it is a family member, coworker or friend,” said Executive Director of The Spa Kim Parker. “We wanted to show our support and share our strength in a powerful way, where the entire community could benefit.”

Throughout the day, the Spa at Pinehurst will also offer free workshops and screenings at the Spa, including mineral make up dustings by La Bella Donna; bone density tests, tips on self breast examination, and more.  Complimentary “Locks of Love” haircuts will be offered in the Spa salon for all who wish to donate.  Door prizes will be given away throughout the day – including a giveaway for a day at the Spa.  A special $125 overnight room rate will also be available to guests planning to attend the event.

From 4 pm to 6 pm, the Spa at Pinehurst will open to the public with free Live Music by Sweet T – led by singer and breast cancer survivor Rebecca Lapping, along with continued makeup dustings and workshops.  The evening will end at 6 pm with a Pink Balloon “Release” from the Spa at Pinehurst Lawn in honor of those that have been lost to breast cancer or are currently fighting the disease.

Pinehurst is also matching donations through the month of October for up to $2,500 for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength.  The organization provides plain-talk information and free support services to those affected by Breast Cancer, including a 24/7 hotline for those in need.
