This was a different “One Moment in Time” on the 18th green of Pinehurst No. 2.
On Saturday, Brad Wohlers and his girlfriend Laurie Barger played No. 2 on their first visit to Pinehurst. And when they got to the 18th green, Brad got down on one knee and proposed to Laurie.
Much to Brad’s relief, Laurie said yes, drawing cheers and roars from the crowd gathered on the veranda overlooking the green, not unlike other championship moments at that very site.
The entire moment was captured on video, and it’s great. There were few things, though, that we really like, and so we felt it appropriate to call them out in diary form:
1 second We see Brad go to his pocket for the ring. Did he have it in his pocket for the entire round? Zipped up in his golf bag? With his caddie (more on the caddies later…)?
3 seconds Just an #ELITE backhanded rake by Laurie to hole out on 18. @ClubProGuy would be proud.
6 seconds “Hey Laurie…will you marry me?” I’m not crying, you’re crying…
11 seconds The cheering starts. And it doesn’t stop.
17 seconds Laurie’s nod is just great.
29 seconds Love that the playing partner was concerned about pace of play. We thank you, kind sir! So does the group in the fairway behind you.
32 seconds Made the putt, too. No pressure.
33 seconds Brad raises his arms in triumph. We know about celebrations on the 18th hole. This one was a good one, Brad.
37 seconds Had to close it out with the Pinehurst Love logo.
Brad and Laurie, we wish you both the very best. And did you know we do weddings? Honeymoon round at The Cradle?
