KT – The Spa at Pinehurst Has You Covered

????????????

The Spa at Pinehurst boasts the largest KT-certified massage staff at any resort on the East Coast.

By Jennifer Malia Roche

You may have seen various athletes during the summer Olympics – and certainly Michelle Wie at the U.S. Women’s Open right here in Pinehurst – sporting bands of brightly colored tape on their arms and shoulders and said to yourself, “Now, what the heck is all that?”

Despite what it looks like, the tape is not a fashion statement. “KT,” as we like to call it in-house, was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase over 30 years ago. The method uses a specific type of tape that is applied over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over contraction.

Novak Djokovic routinely uses KT as well.

Don’t be fooled by shady substitutions. You may have seen this tape for sale in places like Dick’s or Wal-Mart, but that tape is:

  • A) Not professional-grade tape or;
  • B) Something you can just slap on yourself.

An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology is required, which is why it should only be done by certified practitioners using the real-deal tape.

Like us.

In the summer of 2013, The Spa at Pinehurst massage team underwent intensive two-day KT training and as a result is now the largest, KT-certified massage staff at any resort on the East Coast.

KT Sessions can booked through Spa Reservations for $110 and are 50 minutes long. They include an assessment and tape application for up to two zones. You’ll also get access to the Spa pool, sauna and steam room with your session.

We’re not promising it will improve your golf game (although…Michelle Wie, so you do the math), but it surely couldn’t hurt to give it a shot.

So before you head to the first tee of No. 2, ready to make that check mark on your bucket list, make sure you’ll be at your very best. We look forward to hearing from you.

Broken-Heart-Backgrounds-HD-Wallpapers-4

Pink balloons. Heart-shaped boxes full of chocolates. A dozen roses. Or two dozen.

We don’t care about any of that. Not this year.

We want TISSUES, TEARS and HEARTBREAK. Tell us about your worst Valentine’s Day ever, and win with Pinehurst!

Leave a comment below telling us about the worst Valentine’s Day experience of your life.

An esteemed panel of UNFEELING, LOVELORN judges will determine the best of the worst, with the winner receiving the choice of two 50-minute services at The Spa at Pinehurst or dinner for two at the 4-Star 1895 Grille. (And don’t forget dessert. For the love of humanity, DON’T FORGET DESSERT.)

Entries will be accepted until Valentine’s Day and then we’ll reveal the winners on a day not so, um, “manufactured” as Valentine’s Day.

After all, something good has to happen around that day, right?

Love,

The Spa at Pinehurst – Breast Cancer Awareness

To honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Spa at Pinehurst offered free services to breast cancer survivors. To remember those survivors and honor those fallen, Spa clients and staff released pink and white balloons to cap an event that was emotional, moving and hopeful.

Among those on hand Monday, Megan Burke, 9, enjoyed a free haircut for “Locks for Love.” Megan grew her hair long for a year just to be able to donate it for hairpieces and wigs for those fighting cancer.

Donations will be accepted at The Spa throughout the month of October, with 100 percent of all funds donated to the Pretty in Pink Foundation. A portion of all Spa therapies sold during the month of October will also be donated.

The Nervous Guy’s Guide to the Spa Experience

Spa exterior

I’ll let you in on a little secret about myself. Do with it what you will.

I worry a good bit. Maybe I don’t worry as much as my lovely wife does, but then again, I’m not the one married to me.

Still, I get pretty nervous in new situations. I’m better than I used to be, when I was a hot mess. But 15 years of being in media has helped me get past many of the pre-jitters jitters.

I think you need an example. And I’ve got a doozy. Let’s say me, average 36-year-old guy, was given the opportunity to relax – in the middle of a work day, no less – at a luxurious resort spa. And not just any spa. The Spa at Pinehurst — one of the best resort spas in the nation.

For most people, they would’ve jumped at an opportunity like this the moment they were given the green light. Me? I took my foot off the gas kind of hoping the light would turn to yellow.

The Roman Catholic I am, however wishy-washy I may be decades past Confirmation, I knew going in I had enough of a hurdle just to get over the guilt of taking in the Spa while others in my department worked. “Oh, so the new guy gets to the go to the Spa under the guise of gathering a marketing sense of the place. Yeah, surrrre.” That was the line going through my head, over and over in a “Call Me, Maybe” maddening spiral of repetition. (Oh c’mon! This link isn’t nearly as bad as the others! Go ahead...click.)

The guilt is no small thing. But I could dumb myself past that. “This is for work.” Say that to yourself enough times, and eventually you’ll become convinced that this is all good.

But there was more. Another lingering feeling.
