That’s 2 out of 10 for Jackson Van Paris.

Just over a month since he set the course record on Pinehurst No. 4 in the first round of the North & South Amateur, Van Paris can add his name to another course record at Pinehurst.

The Cradle.

Seven birdies. An ace. And one par. That, friends, is how you card an 18 on The Cradle, Pinehurst’s 9-hole par-3 short course designed by Gil Hanse. On the card, it reads: 2-2-2-2-2-1-2-2-3.

The new course record is one shot better than the 19 by Jack Heath and Bob Windows.

That now gives Van Paris a course record on two of Pinehurst’s 10 total courses (soon to be 11). Over just nine holes recently, Van Paris nearly matched the nine birdies he made on No. 4 on his way to medalist honors and eventually the semifinals of the North & South Amateur earlier this summer.

Quite an honor for the Pinehurst resident and Vanderbilt golfer who won the Sunnehanna Amateur two weeks before the North & South after – wait for it – another 61.

This is where we mention the course record for Pinehurst No. 2, set by Tom Watson, Hale Irwin and Gibby Gilbert.

62.
