With more than 200 craft breweries in the state – the most in the South – local beer is an essential part of the any North Carolina visitor’s experience. Our area boasts three… The Brewmaster’s Tour leads guests through the complete brewing process, allowing for a unique behind-the-scenes look at the operation of three local craft breweries.
Pinehurst Brewing Co.
Pinehurst Brewing Co. occupies what was the original Village steam plant. Originally known as the Power House, the steam power plant began operation on Dec. 31, 1895, allowing for The Holly Inn to provide electricity and steam heat when it opened its doors to its first guests that New Year’s Eve. For decades, the steam plant provided heat and electricity for the Village’s hotels, cottages, businesses and trolleys, allowing Pinehurst to prosper from its earliest days. After an extensive renovation to restore much of the building’s original façade, Pinehurst Brewing Co. is home to an array of craft beers brewed on site as well as a full kitchen, featuring authentic North Carolina barbecue and Texas-style brisket cooked daily at the brewery’s smokehouse.
Southern Pines Brewing Company
Founded by three former Green Berets stationed at nearby Fort Bragg, Southern Pines Brewing Company has quickly become a local favorite. The brewery currently self-distributes its beer exclusively in central North Carolina, and beyond the flagship beers that can be found in retail stores, they brew innovative artisanal batches of beer on a regular basis.
Owned by veterans of three branches of the military, the founders of Railhouse Brewery are as dedicated to making great beer as they were to serving our country. With beer distributed in the Carolinas, Georgia and South Korea, Railhouse’s spacious taproom provides a great spot to grab a bite to eat and enjoy tasty and ever-changing, experimental small batch brews.
