Golf.com unveiled its Top 100 Courses in the World for 2020-21 online this morning, and Pinehurst No. 2 moved up three spots to No. 16 in the world in this latest ranking.

Of No. 2, Golf.com wrote:

Donald Ross’ 112-year-old chef d’oeuvre rolls gently and spaciously through tall Longleaf pines in the Carolina Sandhills, with holes culminating in the legendary inverted-saucer greens. For the 2014 U.S. Open, a Coore-Crenshaw restoration brought back the tawny-edged fairways and native areas last seen in the 1940s. Even with no traditional thick U.S. Open rough, the runner-up could muster only one under par over four rounds, which indicates that the terrors of short grass are alive and well at the home of American golf. (Up 3)

That puts No. 2 in some pretty good company. To wit:

  • Whistling Straits (Straits) is 69th
  • Kiawah Ocean Course is 58th
  • Carnoustie is 32nd
  • Pacific Dunes is 24th
  • Winged Foot West is 23rd
  • Pebble Beach is 11th
  • Augusta National is 9th
  • St Andrews Old Course is 3rd (No Change)
  • Cypress Point is 2nd (No Change)
  • Pine Valley is 1st (No Change)
